Its effect comes from preventing the breakdown of blood clots to control excessive bleeding during periods. Mefenamic Acid is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID) which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling).
